Skippers Canyon Tour
Skippers Canyon Tour
Skippers Canyon is a historic and scenic gorge located 15 minutes north of Queenstown. It stretches 22km in length and is accessed via the same road that leads to Coronet Peak ski field. Through the majestic Skippers Canyon runs the Shotover River – one of New Zealand's richest gold-bearing rivers.
Once a busy gold mining area the canyon was, and still is, accessed by the historic Skippers Road. Originally built by hand in the 1800s, it traverses the face of the canyon high above the powerful Shotover River.
Skippers Road is regarded as one of New Zealand’s most spectacular roads and it has been named by some publications as one of the world’s top 50 most scenic road. With sweeping views along the gorge and of the Shotover River below, you’ll have countless photo opportunities at every turn! This would be one of the most scenic photo tours in New Zealand.

Awesome back country view of Skippers Canyon!
"We were very fortunate to go on a private tour through the Skippers Canyon where Dan gave us many historical facts and anecdotal accounts of the hardship endured by the gold miners. Our tour started in the morning where the low lying clouds provided an amazing back drop for photos taken and as the sun rose, the landscape changed. Coffee and Whittakers chocolates were great!"

Great Way to Experience Skippers
"Working with Dan prior to our visit, was great! He accommodated us with answering all questions and being able to book the trip the day before. He was prompt in picking my husband and I up at our hotel and was a good tour guide along the way, pointing out different things and points of interest as we took the drive to Skippers Canyon. Once we got to the canyon area, we made several stops for photos taking into account the position of the sun, clouds and other vehicles that were in the area. We worked on different landscape techniques at each stop. Dan knew the places along the way to stop to get great shots and be able to take some really great images home that we will be able to remember our trip for years."
